Art Burrill's collection
This photo was not taken by Art, but I think it belongs to James L. Ehernberger, and Art had a copy of it in his album. It's someplace west of North Platte on the UP mainline, the Overland Route. James L. Ehernberger is a noted author on books about Union Pacific, co-authoring such books as "Smoke Down the Canyons, Smoke over the Prairies and more recently, a set of books on large UP steam locomotives.

Here, UP5022 pauses beside the Eaton, Colorado, depot, waiting for orders with a sugar beet extra. The sugar industry is a thing of the past, as is UP5022. UP5511, a sister to UP5022, survives at the Cheyenne Roundhouse. Sugar Beet harvest was always a busy time in Northern Colorado in the golden age of railroading.
