The Moffat Tunnel

Here, an SP coal train exits the Tunnel in a wintry January of 1997.

This photo was taken at East Portal in early January of 2001. The Rio Grande Ski Train operated by Ansco emerges from the tunnel powered by Rio Grande #3105. This was a special trip with this power because one of the Ski Train locomotives had failed. I tried to catch this train for another photo and it was impossible, it moved much faster than a freight train. No doubt, soon this locomotive will enter the paint shop and emerge in Armour Yellow for UP, it's owner. As you can see, East Portal changed very little in four years.
