Tennessee Pass, Page3

Tennessee Pass, Lake and Eagle Counties, Colorado
These two locomotives are examples of power that one might have seen on Tennessee Pass. One is a venerable Rio Grande GP30, the other a reasonably new Southern Pacific AC4400. Both are taken at Minturn. The Rio Grande unit was 30 years old when this picture was taken, and is said to be still active on the Union Pacific equipment trace computer. It is a great example that just because something is old doesn't mean it isn't useful.

This picture shows the Rio Grande trackage in the Eagle River Canyon, with the U.S. 24 viaduct high above. This is near Redcliffe. Tennessee Pass is a very scenic area.
