These two photos are representative of the two classes of steam locomotives on the Durango and Silverton. The 482 is identical to the 487 and other Cumbres and Toltec steamers.

The 473 is a "K27" class "Mikado" steam locomotive, built by ALCO, American Locomotive Works. The 482 is a "K36" class, slightly heavier, and built by Baldwin. Both of these locomotives served many years on the Denver and Rio Grande Western. 482 was acquired in a trade from Cumbres and Toltec and totally rebuilt. It's a beautiful machine.
